Hampton Co. dog found alive on the side of the road with multiple shotgun wounds

Local News

Hampton County deputies are searching for information after an injured dog was found dumped on the side of the road.

The purebred lab had been shot several times in the face with a shotgun, he was found wrapped in a  sheet and a blanket on Wild Turkey Road in the Cummings February 5th.

The dog was taken to the Hampton County Animal Shelter, where an x-ray of his face revealed birdshot riddled his face, eyes, and front legs.

According to a Facebook post by Mary Ann Morris Animal Society (MAMAS), who now has the dog, “Euthanasia was discussed, but Desi showed a will to live. His face was terribly swollen, and his eyes shut, and he couldn’t walk, but his tail continue to thump when someone sweet talked him, and he ate food….always a good sign.”

MAMAS named the 8 to 9-month-old-pup Desi and performed his surgery. He lost both eyes, but is recovering.

The shelter is accepting donations for the costs accrued. They can be sent to paypal@mamasanimalshelter.com or 254 Slow Pitch Rd. Bamberg, SC 29003.

The Hampton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this as an animal cruelty case. If you have any information about the incident or who may have done this, you are asked to call the sheriff’s office at 803-914-2200.
