LAGRANGE, Ga. (WXIA) – Authorities are investigating after a newborn’s body was found on the side of the road in west Georgia this weekend.
On Sunday afternoon, Troup County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Boy Scout Road in LaGrange regarding the discovery of a deceased newborn.
The newborn’s body was found in a portable cooler bag, authorities said.
According to the sheriff’s office, witnesses said the cooler had been on the side of the road near the wood line for several days — possibly a week.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab.
Investigators urge anyone with information to call the Troup County Sheriff’s Office or CrimeStoppers.
They describe the cooler as light blue in color with pictures of watermelon slices. It zips at the top, front and sides.
LaGrange is located in Troup County approximately 45 miles north of Columbus.
