MIAMI (WTVJ) - Authorities are trying to determine the identity of a detained man who claims he was mistaken for his twin brother who escaped from a Georgia state prison.
Jean Vernet Prado is being held in jail, but he says the one who should be there is his twin brother -- Raul Prado.
"The papers say one thing but the person, the body, it's not the person they seek,” said Jonathan Meltz, Prado’s defense attorney.
Authorities say Raul, who has been serving a drug trafficking sentence, escaped in May from work detail in Augusta.
Believing they had caught Raul, authorities in Miami put Jean in jail.
Jean’s attorney has filed a motion stating a long list of reasons why his client should be released. A hearing is scheduled next week to either prove that Jean is his brother or release him.
