Georgia News

BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. (AP) – Two people were killed in a house explosion in north Georgia Sunday.

Television stations in Georgia and South Carolina say neighbors reported the blast at about 8 a.m.

It happened in the Union County town of Blairsville. WYFF in Greenville, South Carolina, said neighbors reported feeling the blast 25 miles away.

State fire commissioner John King’s office identified the dead Monday as 78-year-old Ralph Norris Wood Jr. and 77-year-old Peggy Wood. Autopsies were planned on both at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Atlanta.

The blast destroyed the Wood’s home and damaged several nearby houses.

Authorities say it could be weeks before they can determine the cause of an explosion.
