Georgia shrimping season ends New Year’s Eve

Georgia News

The shrimping season comes to a close in the Peach State this Monday.

According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) all food shrimp harvesting activities, including trawling, cast netting and seining will be against the law in Georgia’s territorial waters after 6:00 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

Georgia DNR says anglers and commercial bait shrimp dealers will still be allowed to harvest shrimp as long as it’s used as bait.

Officials say the annual closure is meant to give shrimp populations the ability to remain healthy and allow for smaller shrimp to grow to a more marketable size.

The shrimping season for 2018 opened June 18.
