GA woman who faked cancer in DUI case sentenced to prison

Georgia News

A woman who faked cancer to delay a DUI trial was sentenced this week.

On Wednesday, Abbey Arthur was sentenced to 10 years in total: two years in prison and the remainder on probation.

Prosecutors said she set up a crowdfunding page claiming she needed money after claiming to be diagnosed with cancer. Arthur said it was her prescription medications that caused the DUI.

Police discovered her story was not true. She pleaded guilty to theft by deception and forgery.

On Thursday, Arthur appeared in state court for DUI charges.

A judge ordered her to pay about $1,000 in fines, perform 40 hours of community service and have her license suspended for 120 days upon her release from prison.
