Two days after an 11-year-old Georgia girl was found dead, an Alabama man has been arrested for her murder.
Amber Barnett, of Polk County, Georgia, was reported missing last Friday. Family members say she was last seen at her aunt’s home in Alabama.
On Saturday, investigators found Amber’s body in DeKalb County, Alabama, about 200 yards behind the home of 33-year-old Christopher Madison.
Preliminary reports indicate the girl died from strangulation.
“I said my heart was shattered a few days ago. My heart is still shattered, but I’m proud of our staff and the way they pulled together, and the way they worked,” said DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden. “Our main focus is justice for a sweet angel who gained her wings, and that’s where I stand firmly as at as true justice.”
Madison is charged with capital murder. He is being held without bond.
Welden said due to the ongoing investigation, additional information on the case is not being released.
