Georgia Day Parade to impact traffic in downtown Savannah

Local News

Police are closing down some roads for the annual Georgia Day Parade on Friday in downtown Savannah.

The parade begins at 10:45 a.m. at Forsyth Park, heads through the squares and ends at City Hall.

This means traffic will be affected for a few hours. Bay Street will be closed between Whitaker and Drayton streets during the ceremony.

By 1:00 p.m., police say traffic should be back to normal.

The Georgia Day Parade is a part of the annual commemoration of the founding of the Georgia colony on February 12, 1733, by James Edward Oglethorpe.

Students will dress up as historical figures and march along the parade, which ends with a brief ceremony with local dignitaries and musicians at City Hall.

Students will disperse with their schools from the intersection of Bay and Bull streets once the ceremony concludes.
