Garden City store reopens nearly one year after EF-1 tornado ripped through building

Local News

Garden City — (WSAV)

In a News 3 follow up, it’s been nearly a year since an EF-1 tornado ripped through parts of Garden City injuring five people.

Dozens of homes and businesses were damaged by the storm, but perhaps the hardest hit was the Advance Auto Parts store on Highway 80.  Emergency crews rushed inside the store to get customers and employees to safety.  Insulation, shattered glass, and pieces of the building were scattered everywhere.

“When the tornado took out the store, we were devastated, the community was devastated.  Today, is actually an open house day for our commercial shops to come in, see the new facility,” says Orlando Scott with Advance Auto Parts.

What a difference a year makes.  Crews began rebuilding the new store back in January.  The store’s owner allowed our cameras inside to capture all the progress.

The new Advance Auto Parts store will officially celebrate its grand opening in two weeks.
