Family seeks answers to solve 2013 Liberty County murder case

Local News

A Liberty County family is asking for your help to solve a six-year-old murder case.

The family along with Liberty County Sheriff’s Office are asking for information in the death of Ernie Walthour. Deputies say the beloved basketball coach was murdered in 2013. A sheriff’s office task force believes he died after a robbery and card game.
Investigators say his friend Marquise Smalls died in a similar situation three years earlier. Walthour’s sister says the news of her brother’s death still haunts her.

Teresa Lingard says, “It’s heartbreaking, especially because of the person he was. He was good to everyone, all the time. He would give you the shirt off his back and for somebody to just murder him, it’s even harder because we haven’t had any closure. We don’t know who did it.”

Two men were charged in Smalls’ murder. No suspects have been named in Walthour’s case.

If you have any information, contact the Liberty County Sheriff’s office at 912-876-2131.
