Coast Guard rescues kayakers near Little Tybee Island

The Coast Guard rescued two kayakers Wednesday after their kayaks capsized near Little Tybee Island.

The Coast Guard Sector Charleston received a call from the kayakers at 8:30 p.m. stating they could not get back on their kayaks.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, a response boat and rescue helicopter launched around 8:45 p.m.

The Air Station Savannah MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter located kayakers at 9:03 p.m. and lowered a rescue swimmer.

The response boat crew arrived on scene at 9:40 p.m., taking the kayakers, Michael Shultz and Jeff Shuver, and their kayaks to the Bull River Marina.

No injuries were reported. Both kayakers had live jackets on.
