Chief of Alma Police Department resigns

ALMA, Ga. (WSAV) - The head of the Alma Police Department is stepping down.

Michael Leslie announced on Thursday that he is resigning from his position as police chief.

“After two decades of policing, I have decided to travel down a different vocational path,” he said in a statement. “My decision was not easy, but has followed an opportunity to work with a company in the private sector.”

Leslie has been in Alma for a couple of years. Before heading Georgia's blueberry capital he served as the Commander of the Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit.

Leslie says he is “grateful for the support the community has shown me and the officers of APD.”

No word yet on who will take his place.
