SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – A horse carriage company in Savannah says their horse and driver are okay following a “minor incident” Monday evening.
A local animal activist group tells News 3 a witness saw a horse-drawn carriage flip over on Liberty Street Monday evening.
The company involved, Carriage Tours of Savannah, on Tuesday, released a statement online regarding the incident.
According to the company, one of their horses was waiting at a traffic light at E. Broad and Liberty streets when it started backing up and “jackknifed the carriage.” They added that the driver and horse were not injured and everyone got back to the barn safely.
“In the interest of transparency, we wanted to tell of this occurrence at our earliest opportunity, to prevent any mis-information or conjecture,” Carriage Tours of Savannah stated. “The driver and support staff handled everything just beautifully, and did so precisely as they have been trained with respect to our high standards for safety & continued training.”
It’s unclear what caused the horse to back up into the carriage. The company said the horse was “separated from his buddies and looking forward to getting home for dinner.”
