GARDEN CITY, Ga. (WSAV) –
It’s an opportunity held by Garden City Police Officers to connect with some of the youngest members of the community they serve.
“Cops at bus stops are all about getting to know the kids on a personal basis. A lot of times, they run into us when we’re having to deal with a call for service and they don’t necessarily get to see us do good things in the community. This gives us the opportunity to be one on one with them,” said Lt. Brian Hood with the Garden City Police Department.
Officers set up a tent at the Chatham City Apartments on Thursday to wait for kids coming off the school bus with snacks on site.
“We’re here to show them that we want to help them anyway we can and we’re here anytime they need to talk to us. If they’re having a bullying issue or something in the community, they may talk to us about it,” said Lt. Hood.
The goal of the effort was to keep communication and visibility open for kids in the area.
Lt. Hood tells News 3 the department is looking to expand the bus stop initiative to include public bus stops.
