STATESBORO, Ga. (WSAV) – A Bulloch County couple learned some disturbing news after moving into a new apartment. One of their neighbors is on the sex offender registry.

In a post on social media, Ernie Garrett claims the man in these pictures is performing a lewd act in public. We’ve blurred those images.

He also said the man is a registered sex offender, which he said he found out from the police.

Garrett believes the manager of the complex should have informed him that a registered sex offender lived there, but  Capt. Todd Hutchens with the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office said otherwise.

” When you’re talking about private apartment complexes or neighborhoods, they don’t actually have a requirement to notify all of their tenants if they have a sex offender residing in their area,” Hutchens said.

The Sheriff’s Office said the best way to find out if a sex offender lives in your neighborhood is to check the Georgia Bureau of Investigation website.
