One major airline is making a home at Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport and bringing dozens of jobs along with it.
Allegiant Air on Wednesday announced their plans to establish a two-aircraft base. The company says they’re investing $50 million to start and will create more than 60 jobs in Savannah.
They say having a locally-based aircraft and crew will mean more travel options for visitors and locals at better prices.
Allegiant currently offers 44 flights a week from the airport to more than 15 destinations.
A spokesperson for the airline says the decision to expand its presence in the Hostess City was easy.
“When we started adding access to Savannah and Hilton Head, boy, the demand just went crazy,” said Allegiant’s Director of Corporate Communications, Hilarie Grey. “People love to come on vacation here, those flights are full, we’re adding more, so when we looked at it it really made sense to base an aircraft here.”
This will be Allegiant’s 17th base. The airline will begin operations on June 6.
