Alderman Van Johnson says he’s thinking about throwing his hat into the ring for Mayor of Savannah.
The District 1 Alderman on Thursday told WRUU he is gearing up for the race.
“I’m in it for the long run. It is my intention to run for Mayor of Savannah,” he told host Rev. Dave Messner.
News 3 asked Johnson about the announcement.
He did not confirm the decision but says he’s considering running for mayor or for alderman-at-large.
Johnson was first elected to Savannah’s City Council in 2003. He was re-elected to District 1 in 2007 and 2011.
Eddie DeLoach currently serves as Savannah’s Mayor. He’s held the position since 2016.
Former state legislator Regina Thomas and Anthony Oliver have announced they are running for mayor.
