STATESBORO, Ga., (WSAV)-  A 20 million dollar project was announced in Statesboro  which will transform parts of the city.

The project is being called Creek on the Blue Mile. Plans for the project include transforming a drainage canal  and areas around it into a creek,  a shopping  area and living spaces.

A lake reservoir is also included in this plan. It is expected to be built to help control flooding in parts of the area.

Keely Fennell, president of the Blue Mile foundation, said she hoped this project would bring more people to Statesboro.

” We hope that this pebble, this creek in the downtown of Statesboro will just create synergy that will go up and down The Blue Mile and downtown. That will create new development and maybe folks will redevelop their own businesses so that we can continue to bring folks to downtown Statesboro,” Fennell said.

Fennell tells News Three, the project is expected to bring around 750 jobs to the area.
