$10K reward offered in Bloomingdale arson investigation

A house fire that occurred July 8 on Old River Road has been ruled an arson, officials say.

Glen Allen with the Georgia Insurance Commissioner’s Office says a $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest. The arson hotline is 1-800-282-5804.

Crews responded to a report of a house fire near the Effingham County line on Sunday around 7:00 a.m. The house was fully engulfed in flames and the home was destroyed.

According to the Chatham County Police Department (CCPD), several calls were made the morning before the fire with complaints of people knocking on doors and shouting.

CCPD arrested two men in connection with the incident.

Matthew Hankins, 22, was charged with criminal trespass and second-degree burglary; two counts of each.

35-year-old Charles Robert Scarboro was arrested on charges of criminal attempt to commit a felony (two counts) and criminal trespass.
