Statesboro, GA- Children from Bulloch County ranging from 8-18 were busy running drills and learning from four time pro bowler, Justin Houston, during his 2nd annual Youth Football Camp on Saturday, June 25th. But Houston wasn’t the only one out there showing these kids a thing or two. Wide receiver, AJ Green with the Bengals and tight end Travis Kelce with the Chiefs.
Houston was a third round draft pick back in 2011. Beside teaching them skills on the gridiron Houston hopes that these kids understand the importance of an education.
“Stay focused in school, you can’t do nothing without school. I know a lot of kids got dreams but start in school you need an education. If you don’t have an education nine times out of ten your dreams are killed so you gotta get an education.”
All of the proceeds from Saturday’s youth camp is going straight back to the Boys and Girls Club of Bulloch County. Houston says he is happy to come back and mentor kids in his hometown. It also means so much to locals in Statesboro to have Houston return and share his experiences.
The VP of Human Resources for Crider Foods, Charlene Powell says, ” He shows these children what’s possible in their lives. Not only can they do well in athletics but they can do well in their life as human beings and as members of this community.”
I just give back because I think that’s the right thing to do, I think that’s what you’re supposed to do. You’re supposed to help one another and that’s the way if you can if you get that opportunity then you should always do that,” Houston says.
