BERLIN, Germany — The Jewish holiday Hanukkah was sparked in the German capital on Sunday evening at the Annual Menorah Lighting Ceremony in front of Berlin’s iconic Brandenburg Gate.
Germany’s president participated in the lighting of the menorah to start the 8-day Hanukkah celebration.
The festival of light follows a strict ritual with one candle being lit each day.
The new candles are added from right to left but are lit every day from left to right.
The center candle is lit together with the first candle and stays lit.
