Clay Bishop, D
Bishop is a lifelong resident of Hampton County and is serving the third year on the Hampton County Planning Commission. He is also a member of the Hampton County Economic Development Commission. His motto is “Vote Clay for a Better Way” and says his candidacy is based on “Christian Values.”



Charles ‘Buddy’ Phillips, D
Phillips is the current Council Vice-Chairman and this is his third term on County Council.  He was born in Hampton, South Carolina, attended Hampton Public Schools and graduated from Wade Hampton High School in 1956. He is married to Joanne Knopf Phillips who is a local artist and cosmetologist. They have two daughters, Jody and Missy; one grandson, Brooks; two granddaughters, Rumer and Reid and one great-grandson, Jake. He taught in Jasper County School and was Superintendent of Hampton School District One, earning S.C. state Superintendent of the Year for 2003. He also served as the Mayor of Hampton from 1976-79.

Darrell A. Russell, R

Russell says he is running for Hampton County Council to help find solutions to the concerns of county citizens by working with other council members. He writes, “I’m first, a man of God; second, an American; and third, a Republican. I am a U.S. Marine veteran, husband, father and friend, and I’ll always be the man to stand up for the future and betterment of Hampton County.”  Items on his agenda include: More efficient use of tax dollars with true transparency;
attracting new and keeping current businesses in Hampton County; timely emergency services; youth programs that will include guidance and ‘Life Coaching’.
