Volunteer crews are hard at work sprucing up a local private cemetery where dozens of Savannah veterans lay at rest.
Friends of Evergreen cemetery on Savannah’s westside say maintaining the space is a weekly effort, but with the amount of veterans laid to rest there, they’re working extra hard to get it clean this Memorial Day.
“There are many military plots and we respect that and do the best we can to keep it down. There are times like now this is the beginning of spring going into the summer the grass will be growing like wildfire and so it needs cutting every two weeks,” says Rev. Augustus Johnson who is a part of the Friends and Families Of Evergreen Cemetery group.
The cemetery is located along Acl boulevard near highway 21 off 52nd street.
