COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A small group of senators going line by line over a massive bill overhauling South Carolina’s education system aren’t ready to finish their work yet.
The subcommittee had hoped to vote on the bill at its meeting Monday.
But Senate Education Committee Chairman Greg Hembree says a Democratic member has several things he wants to change.
Hembree promised to “lock himself in a room” with Sen. Vincent Sheheen of Camden to work out their differences and get the bill to a vote. The Republican from Little River says Sheheen has several good points.
Hembree says the delay doesn’t change his plans to get the bill through the full Senate Education Committee and on the Senate floor when the Legislature returns in January.
