SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – A detainee was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead at the Chatham County Detention Center Sunday morning.
The information was released as a statement in a Facebook post by the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office.
The inmate, later identified as 43-year-old Gregory Alan Woods, was discovered unresponsive just after 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Medical staff attempted lifesaving measures but the detainee was eventually died.
Woods was set to have a court appearance this morning.
An autopsy is set for March 8. The death remains under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
