Crash kills Savannah newscaster, injures four

Jasper County, SC (WSAV) - South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating a fatal collision near Temptations night club on Speedway Boulevard in Jasper County. LCpl Matt Southern with the South Carolina Highway Patrol tells NEWS 3 at least one person has died in the collision that happened around 4:00 Sunday morning. That person, according to Southern, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. In a WTOC News release on their Facebook page that the man who died is their news anchor Don Logana. We at WSAV extend our deepest sympathies to their news family. 

Jasper County Coroner Martin Sauls said three people were in the vehicle with the decedent and were transferred to Memorial Hospital. The driver of the truck that collided head-on with the vehicle was also taken to Memorial Hospital. The driver, Erich Richter of Register, GA, remains in serious condition. The front seat passenger, Carlina Richter of Register, GA, is in stable condition and the backseat passenger on the driver's side, Joshua Bridges of Savannah, remains in critical condition. Logana was in the back seat on the passenger side and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The person driving the truck, Cleveland Coleman of Savannah, is in stable condition. 

 The Back River Bridge was closed for hours but all lanes have been reopened on U.S. 17/Speedway Boulevard. 

South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the crash and its contributing factors. We will keep you updated.
