If you haven’t already, now is the time to stock up on some reusable bags.
Starting on Thursday, Nov. 1, Beaufort County retailers are required to stop providing single-use plastic bags to customers. Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, Port Royal and Beaufort will all be impacted by the ordinance.
The ban is aimed at reducing pollution and protecting the environment — including waterways and marine life prevalent across the area.
The ordinance does not ban all plastic bags. Some items excluded from the ordinance include meat and produce bags, garbage bags and dry cleaning bags.
Some retailers will provide paper bags or have reusable bags available for purchase.
Additional information on the plastic bag ban can be found on the county’s website.
