Atlanta K-9 officer injured in shooting released from hospital

An Atlanta police K-9 shot in the face while searching for a suspect was released from the veterinarian hospital Saturday.

The incident in Dekalb County Thursday night also resulted in the death of an officer and the suspect. 

Edgar Flores, 24, an officer with the Dekalb County Police Dept. was shot and killed after a traffic stop turned into a foot pursuit. 

Officers and SWAT on the scene returned fire, reportedly shooting the suspect, 33-year-old Brandon Taylor, of Decatur, several times.

The K-9 named Indi lost his right eye when the bullet hit his head. Indi was released from the veterinarian hospital Saturday as the street lined with law enforcement honoring the pup for his bravery. A video from one of the officers captured the moment. 

Fellow law enforcement and community members escorted the body of Officer Flores from DeKalb County to his home in Habersham County Saturday. 

Flores’ funeral and visitation will be this week.

According to his obituary, Flores would have been 25 years old Dec.17th.
