A 9-foot, 9-inch alligator that bit an elderly Florida man still had his sneaker in its mouth when it was taken ashore.
Officials say the gator bit an 85-year-old Monday at a pond located inside a large retirement community.
The man, who has not been identified, is said to have been trying to flush out birds nearby when he was attacked.
He was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to be okay.
Shortly after the attack, trappers pulled the gator out of the pond. They found one of the man’s white sneakers still in the gator’s mouth.
No word on what officials will do with the captured reptile.
