Savannah man charged with stealing jewelry from couple's home he remodeled

A Savannah man is charged with stealing thousands of dollars of jewelry from an elderly couple's home.

Police say the suspect stole the jewelry while he worked to remodel their home.

Jerome LeCount is charged with theft by deception.  Police say he worked only a few days remodeling a couple's bathroom at their home in the South bridge Community.

Police say while he was there, he nabbed nearly $10,000 worth of rings.  Police say the couple noticed they were missing - and the jewelry finally reappeared at a pawn shop in Garden City.

Investigators say that's how they connected LeCount to the crime.  According to law enforcement, this isn't his first run-in with the law.  LeCount has a history of arrests dating back to 2004.

The jewelry was returned to the couple.  LeCount is charged with theft by deception and was fired from his job as a contractor.
