SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – A woman accused of smuggling contraband to inmates at the Chatham County Detention Center faces two felony counts.

According to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), Shelley Weins was taken into custody in Effingham County. She faces felony charges of items prohibited by possession for inmates.

CCSO’s Internal Affairs (IA) Division says they were alerted she was taking money off of multiple inmate accounts and launched an investigation.

According to the IA Division, investigators listened to recorded phone calls, monitored e-mails and listened to video visitation calls between Weins and multiple inmates in the jail for more than two weeks.

CCSO says video surveillance showed her dropping contraband off at their training facility near the jail. Inmates who worked in or around there were taking the contraband from there into the jail.

Investigators confiscated a cell phone they say was a part of one of the two contraband drops.
