STATESBORO, Ga. (WSAV) — The Statesboro Police Department (SPD) is investigating a fatal incident that took place early Sunday morning.

Police now know the incident consisted of two separate shootings by the same 21-year-old man.

The incident unfolded around 1:06 a.m. when officers heard gunshots fired near the Blue Room on Chandler Road close to Georgia Southern University.

SPD learned that the now-deceased man was removed from the bar just before firing shots in the direction of the Blue Room.

The building and a car were damaged by gunfire, according to police.

The man then walked down Chandler Road into a wooded area where he was later found with a single gunshot wound to the head. SPD said evidence indicates that the wound was self-inflicted.

He was taken to Memorial Health in Savannah where he later died.

Police confirmed he was not a Georgia Southern student. Further information on his identity was not released.
