STATESBORO, Ga. (WSAV) — The Statesboro Police Department is searching for an aggravated assault suspect after a man’s neck was slashed Thursday night.

Around 7:25 p.m., officers responded to Mulberry Court Apartments on North Mulberry Street after reports of a man who had been cut across the neck.

Officers found a 49-year-old victim alert and conscious and transported him to East Georgia Regional Medical Center. He was treated and later released.

Police identified the offender as 63-year-old Wendell Johnson, who had fled prior to
the arrival of officers. A search warrant was obtained for Johnson’s home where police found evidence of the crime.

Johnson is currently wanted for one count of Aggravated Assault. He is 6 feet tall and weighs 215 pounds. He is known to frequent the Groover Lane, Mulberry Street, and Packinghouse Road areas.
