BLUFFTON, S.C. (WSAV) – The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) arrested a man Monday in connection to a deputy-involved shooting that happened on May 10 in Bluffton.
Jose Robles, 45, was charged with Assault and Battery, 1st Degree, along with Domestic Violence, 2nd Degree.
According to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 3:30 a.m. on May 10, deputies responded to a report of a disturbance outside of a residence in Shady Glen Mobile Home Park. When the deputy first arrived, the deputy was approached by Robles wielding a metal pipe. Robles tried to assault the deputy with the pipe, and the deputy drew his service pistol and fired two shots.
Robles was wounded, but continued to be combative, BCSO says. When additional deputies arrived, they helped restrain him for Beaufort County EMS to respond and evaluate him. EMS stabilized Robles and took him to Savannah Memorial Hospital.
BCSO requested SLED to respond and investigate the incident, as it was a deputy-involved shooting. The deputy was been placed on administrative leave pending an internal review by the Sheriff’s Office’s Office of Professional Responsibility.
Robles was booked Monday at the Beaufort County Detention Center. The case will be prosecuted by the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
SLED says this is still an active investigation.
