LANCASTER, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina man was sentenced to life in prison for killing his wife with a framing hammer.
News outlets report 51-year-old Matthew James Alman pleaded guilty to murder Tuesday in the 2017 death of 58-year-old Mildred Arnold.
Arnold’s daughter, April Moseley, said she and her sister went to check on Arnold after they hadn’t heard from her in a day. Alman told the sisters that their mother was sick.
Moseley and her sister found Arnold’s body severely beaten.
During the investigation, Alman was arrested on an unrelated charge but authorities later found blood on his clothes.
Authorities said they found a bloody hammer and bloody boots that belonged to Alman.
Alman says he’s remorseful. Alman’s lawyer, Brandon Steen, says Alman committed the killing while on drugs and alcohol.
