A 38-year-old teacher at St. Vincent’s Academy has been arrested for illegally photographing students.

Joey Morcock is accused of taking photos up the skirts of female students while he was employed as a track coach and science teacher at the school.

The incident was first reported to the Savannah Police Department on April 23.

Detectives with SPD’s Special Victims Unit launched an investigation into the allegations and Morcock was officially taken into custody on May 10.

He faces two counts for recording intimate parts in secret.

Morcock was removed from his position at the school while the investigation was ongoing.

SVA Principal Mary Anne Hogan released the following statement regarding the incident:

In the Mercy tradition, we teach our young women to speak out against injustice. I am proud of our strong young women who let their voice be heard.  I cannot discuss the details of the termination of Mr. Joseph Morcock, Physics/AP Chemistry and track coach, due to the fact that it is a personnel issue and a police matter.  I can say that the administration has acted swiftly and judiciously regarding this matter. We have every confidence that the plan we have put in place for the remaining days of school will allow us to complete the school year successfully. Please be assured that as always, the administration is focusing on the safety and well- being of our students.  Thank you for support and confidence in SVA. Please continue to pray for us.
