Detectives need the public’s assistance identifying a man who allegedly attempted to rob a store on Bay Street over the weekend.

According to the Savannah Police Department, the attempted robbery occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Hop In (2400 block of W Bay Street).

SPD says a black male suspect – wearing a ski mask – walked up to the counter and pointed a gun at an employee, demanding money.

The employee then locked the door leading to the area behind the counter which police say prompted the suspect to leave the store.

As he was leaving, the suspect took off the mask. He was captured on surveillance video.

SPD describes the suspect as a middle-aged black male who possibly goes by the name Motley.

Anyone with information on the incident or suspect’s identity is asked to call SPD’s Robbery Unit detectives at 912-525-3124.

Anonymous information can also be forwarded to CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020. Tipsters could qualify for a cash reward.
