Remaining Pooler shooting suspects arrested

Two remaining suspects involved in the shooting death of a 22-year-old in Pooler have been arrested.

According to the Pooler Police Department, cousins Cierra Mims and Deandre Mims were taken into custody Thursday afternoon in Riverdale by the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force.

The city is located in Clayton County, about 10 miles south of Metro Atlanta.

Both suspects are charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder and aggravated assault in connection with the death of Quaniqwa Lee.

The 22-year-old was gunned down in the parking lot of Sam’s Club in Pooler on Saturday evening.

“You know, this was a terrible thing to happen — this shooting. And I feel terrible for the families involved and I feel terrible for the citizens of Pooler that this type of fear was struck in the hearts of our citizens,” said Pooler Police Chief Ashley Brown. “We worked tirelessly since Saturday night, no since Friday morning, to make sure that our citizens could rest easy.”

The chief said their coordination with the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) began early Friday when a 10-year-old was shot in Guyton. Brown said the sheriff’s office immediately realized that some of the parties involved were from Pooler.

Rhondalyn Butler, a suspect in Lee’s death, was taken into custody on Saturday following the shooting and subsequent police chase near Sam’s Club in Pooler.

Details surrounding the Mims’ arrests are limited at this time, but police confirmed they were arrested around 1:00 p.m. at a house in Riverdale. Pooler Police said they had “suspicions” earlier Thursday morning that the suspects could be at the house and that the Mims did know the person’s house they were at.

Brown thanked and praised local agencies for their involvement in the investigation.

“25 years and I have never seen it as healthy as it is right now,” Brown said of his department’s relationship with U.S. Marshals, Savannah Police and Effingham County authorities. “We all work very well together. We have a great relationship.”

The chief said Chatham County Sheriff John Wilcher is making arrangements to have the Mims extradited.

Brown also said ECSO has not brought forth any charges against Rhondalyn Butler, Cierra Mims and Deandre Mims in connection to the shooting Friday in Guyton.
