DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, S.C. (WSAV) — A body found off of Daufuskie Island Saturday afternoon has been identified as that of a missing man.

Officials say 51-year-old Craig Jones jumped from a dock near Melrose Landing Road on Aug. 14 and never resurfaced.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), U.S. Coast Guard and other agencies searched the waters for several days.

A week later, a body was found in the water near Freeport Marina.

Following the discovery, an autopsy was performed at the Medical University of South Carolina. The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office, with assistance from the Charleston Police Department, also conducted a fingerprint examination.

Officials determined the deceased man was Jones, who died from drowning.
