SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – News 3 is learning new information about two suspects charged with murdering the manager of a local motel.
Chatham County Police detectives believe those suspects may have been involved in another violent crime just one week prior to the murder at the Stallion Inn motel.
Alexis Brown and Emanuel Harvey are both charged with the murder of Bhikhubhai Patel back in March.
But now, police have charged one of them with another violent crime that happened eight days before Patel was murdered.
Chatham County Police say that crime happened in the parking lot of the Planet Fitness on Ogeechee Road.
On March 21, a man called 911 saying he had been beaten and robbed.
“He stated that a male and female approached his vehicle while he was sitting in the parking lot of Planet Fitness with a young lady he said was Ruby,” Detective Antonio Solomon with Chatham County Police explained. “They opened his car doors, pulled him out, he was struck in the head with a tire iron or a crowbar.”
The man told police the suspects ripped his pants and stole his wallet.
“He said he heard the female say ‘hit him again’, and I guess that’s where he came to and began fighting back. At that point, the male and female fled,” said Solomon.
According to police, the suspects got away in a burgundy colored Jeep Cherokee with a white hood.
Police connected 21-year-old Alexis Brown to this crime and charged her with armed robbery and aggravated assault.
They believe the assault on the victim in the parking lot was orchestrated.
Detectives found a cell phone in the victim’s vehicle they say belongs to Brown. They believe Brown was texting with the woman in the car who told her where they would be parked, and when to attack the victim.
Police say when they arrested Brown at her home in McDuffie County, that burgundy Jeep Cherokee was parked in her front yard.
The victim in that assault was not seriously hurt.
