Customs and border officers at the world’s busiest airport confiscated approximately $80,000 worth of cocaine hidden in a traveler’s figurines.
According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), a 24-year-old woman arrived on a flight from Honduras Tuesday evening at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
During roving patrols, a CBP Agriculture Specialist referred the woman for further inspection.
In her baggage, the three metal decorative art pieces were located. Upon further inspection, an X-ray image of the figurines revealed anomalies.
A CBP officer then opened up the figurines and found a white, powdery substance which tested positive for cocaine. The total amount seized weighed 2.84 pounds.
CBP says the alleged smuggler was immediately returned back to Honduras, her home country.
