SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Detectives have arrested a 17-year-old in connection to a shooting at the Savannah Gardens apartment complex Friday afternoon.
Da’Korey Gusby was booked into the Chatham County jail on a charge of aggravated assault.
The shooting happened around 3 p.m. in the 500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue by Savannah High School.
According to the Savannah Police Department (SPD), officers arrived on the scene where they found 20-year-old Nicholas Ruffin suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.
SPD said detectives determined Gusby and Ruffin knew each other. They got into a fight that turned physical when the incident occurred.
Meanwhile, Savannah High was placed on lockdown as a safety precaution.
According to the Savannah Chatham County School System, the shooting happened about 30 minutes after Savannah High dismissed for the day. However, there were approximately 24 students and 35 staff members on campus.
The lockdown was lifted within 30 minutes.
The shooting investigation is ongoing.
It’s the second shooting in the area this month. Last week, police arrested a 16-year-old in connection to the shooting of another teen.
