DARIEN, Ga. (WSAV) – Investigators say a woman found dead in the Darien River earlier this month has been identified.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), the deceased is 29-year-old Sammeka Barriner, of West Park, Broward County, Florida.
The GBI says they are now working with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office to determine the events leading up to Barriner’s death.
Her body was discovered found in the river in McIntosh County near Highway 17 on Wednesday, April 3. The GBI and Georgia Department of Natural Resources responded.
An artist’s sketch of the woman and her tattoo were later released to help identify her.
Barriner’s cause of death has yet to be determined. The GBI says autopsy findings are pending.
