RINCON, Ga. (WSAV) – A man was arrested Sunday after he barricaded himself in a home in Rincon, then fled the scene for several hours.

According to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, the Rincon Police Department got a call about a domestic situation at a home in the 200 block of Lakeside Place around 3 a.m. A gunman, later identified as 49-year-old Christopher Girod, had barricaded himself inside the home.
Police used tear gas to try to de-escalate the situation and get Girod out safely.
The scene was cleared by 9 a.m. when police made their way inside the home. Girod had fled the scene. He was gone for several hours before he was spotted back in the neighborhood and arrested.
Girod is charged with Aggravated Assault DVA.
