TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WSAV) – A drowning victim was recovered off the coast of Tybee Island Saturday afternoon.

Mark McKinnon from GA DNR Law Enforcement said at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, Georgia game wardens responded to a call of a drowning on Little Tybee Island.

When they arrived, witnesses said that a group of three men were on the beach and noticed a vessel was having trouble. The men swam out to help, and while swimming back, one of them began struggling and went underwater.

Witnesses were able to get the man on a boat, and a registered nurse who was on a nearby sandbar performed CPR until the boat arrived at the Alley 3 boat ramp.

The victim was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.

McKinnon said the victim’s name has not yet been released.
