Caught on Cam: High-speed chase ends in swamp arrest

Crime & Safety

A deputy’s body camera was rolling as he chased a suspect into a swamp on Tuesday.

Authorities say it all started in Hernando County when the 34-year-old suspect resisted arrest, battered a deputy and took off in a truck — all while one of his wrists was handcuffed.

The suspect eventually slowed down in nearby Pasco County, after nearly striking deputies, and ran into a densely wooded, swampy area.

K-9 Knox, along with two sheriff’s officers followed the suspect into the swamp and located him almost entirely hidden in the mud.

Things got interesting when the K-9, instead of biting the suspect, started licking his face.

Eventually, the suspect was taken into custody and charged for flee to elude, aggravated assault on an officer, and violation of probation.

He also faces multiple felony charges in Hernando County.
