Hazmat crews responded to a report of an air irritant at Bull Street Baptist Church on Friday.
According to a spokesperson for Savannah Fire, nearly a dozen units responded to the church at the corner of Anderson and Bull streets just before 10:00 a.m.
An unknown chemical was reportedly inside of the welcome center of the church.
The building was evacuated as a precaution and at least one person was treated at the scene.
Authorities are still trying to determine what the substance was.
While crews were on scene, traffic was rerouted in the area.
According to Savannah Fire, the scene was clear before noon.
