On Monday, Feb. 4, at approximately 6:45 a.m., the Glynn County Police Department responded to Lakes Drive near Baumgardner Road in reference to a death investigation. Officers arrived on scene to find a male on the ground deceased later identified as Jacob Butts, 15, a student at Glynn Academy.
The Georgia State Patrol responded, along with the Glynn County Police Investigations
Division and the incident was investigated jointly by Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) and the Glynn County Police Department’s Investigations Division.
As a result, 21-year-old Glynn County resident Madisyn Culpepper was arrested by the Georgia State Patrol and charged with Vehicular Homicide, Leaving the Scene of an Accident Causing Injury or
Death, and Failure to Maintain Lane. Culpepper was involved in a collision that evening at approximately 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Baumgardner Road and U.S. Hwy 82. At that time, she was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested. A state administered chemical test conducted at the time of her arrest showed her blood alcohol level at 0.22.
Officials report the investigation showed Culpepper struck and killed Butts just prior to causing
the collision on U.S. Hwy 82.
