SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Savannah Police have arrested an 18-year-old who was injured in a shooting on the Southside Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Savannah Police Department, the shooting was accidental, but detectives determined the person injured, Antonio Knight, had broken into the unoccupied home and had been staying there for several days.
SPD says their officers responded to the residence on Dorchester Road and found Knight suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Their investigation found he was injured accidentally by an acquaintance who was in the house with him.
Knight was taken to the hospital for treatment and upon release, he was booked into the Chatham County Detention Center.
He faces a burglary charge.
SPD says the case remains under investigation.
Police officers are investigating a shooting that occurred early Tuesday afternoon on Savannah’s Southside.
According to the Savannah Police Department (SPD), the shooting happened on Dorchester Road near Tibet Avenue.
SPD says the victim, only identified as a black male, was taken to the hospital. No word on his condition at this time.
Police said the shooting doesn’t appear to be random.
This is the second shooting reported Tuesday in Savannah.
Savannah Police are also investigating an incident that occurred on West 47th Street around 3 a.m. A man later showed up to the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
No word whether the incidents are connected.
