SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — One person was killed and two others were left injured in two separate shootings in downtown Savannah early Sunday morning.
According to the Savannah Police Department (SPD), officers responded to the first shooting around 1:20 a.m. at the TimeSaver Store located in the 500 block of West Bay Street.
Upon arrival, police located one man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, while a second victim, 27-year-old Benjamin Tucker, suffered a life-threatening injury. Both were transported to the hospital where Tucker eventually died from his injuries.
SPD homicide detectives and forensic investigators responded to the scene to investigate Tucker’s death, where the suspect was identified as 28-year-old Georgiamae Lawrence.
Lawrence was booked into the Chatham County Jail on Sunday morning on a murder charge.
Officers then responded to another shooting on Congress and Barnard streets, shortly after, at 2:55 a.m., where they located Da’Shon Lawrence, 23, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Lawrence was transported to the hospital and treated and is expected to be OK.
Police say the two shootings do not appear to be related, and neither Da’Shon Lawrence and Georgiamae Lawrence are related.
SPD detectives continue to conduct interviews and are analyzing additional evidence from both scenes. Anyone with information on either incident is asked to call the department’s Violent Crimes Tip Line at 912-525-3124.
